This Is For 3 and 2

Only Dave

Have you ever had someone sing Crush against the side of your neck in almost a whisper?

I think I might hold on to that memory for a few years to come.

I work for a university.  I pay around $15 a month to use a fantastic recreational and sports facility.  The Univerisity gym (SRSC) saw my id about a dozen times between August and December.  I was determined to actually get my money’s worth, which meant visiting at least three times a week.  On the 11th of January, I made my way to the SRSC around six in the morning.

Each week, I have visited the gym more often.  One part because I want to get in better shape, one part because I don’t want to waste money, one part because there is a great looking doctoral student that does pull ups with seventy-five pounds strapped to his waist and one part because I have begun to look forward to the locker room time.

I am no stranger to locker rooms.  I was part of a volleyball team, softball team and cheerleading squad.  And yes.  I was the girl that stripped down, jumped in the shower and didn’t lose an extra ten minutes of time trying to keep ever nip and cheek covered.  I didn’t really have a problem with nudity.

Here is the secret about locker rooms.  Do what you need to do.  Don’t parade around naked.  But seriously, it looks ridiculous when you are trying to keep a towel wrapped around your body as you put on your bra and panties.  Feel free to carry on a conversation if you keep in mind there is no need to turn and face the woman you are speaking to if either one of you are bottomless or topless.  Effortless efficiency is what you are aiming for.

I liked locker rooms.  It was always a place where we would chat about boys and makeup.  Sometimes, we would gossip about a team player that had lost their temper or not carried their weight during a game.  All in all it was a comfortable place to be as a teen.

I haven’t had that camaraderie in the locker room for almost ten years.  My shower time is usually quiet and reflective.  The SRSC has an enormous, industrial-sized women’s locker room and there have been a few mornings that I am alone in over 1500 square feet of metal doors and tile.

But not anymore.  Two weeks ago, two female runners used the treadmill next to mine.  They also used the lockers close to mine.  They both have long dark hair, slim builds and cheerful chatter.  I instantly looked forward to listening to their conversation each morning as they talked about work, relationships and family.

This morning they included me in their chatting.  It is nice to meet new people.

InStyle in February

OOOHHHH.  It has been a while since I have perused InStyle.  I have to stop reading fashion magazines and blogs!!!

Jimmy Choo released the Choo 24:7 line.

$995

$695

I would love to save up and buy both!  Of course, I peeked into the sale section online.  Look what I found:

There has to be a shoe fairy to fill my closet!

Again, the gay love of my fashion life is talking about his new line.  Apparently, Michael Kors has created a cosmetic line to accompany his new fragrance.  The Kors Very Hollywood line encapsulates femininity with the soft pinks and nude colors.  Michael stated:

“Boys love a sexy girl in an evening gown who can also be a little bit of a tomboy.  The Very Hollywood woman is the best of both worlds.”

How can you not love that man?

You can see touches of both in the Bel Air Beige and Rodeo Pink.

If you haven’t been living under a rock, you would know that there is a new season of the Bachelor on ABC.  As much as I want to get into talking about the show, I will resist and stick to the magazine.  I believe the second episode Jake, the Bachelor, took several of the women to a photo shoot for InStyle.

The Bachelor’s Hottest Date Yet

Corrie (Far Left):  Loved her outfit that she based around the Valentino shoes.

Gia (Far Right):  Snagged a pair of Louboutin’s.  I knew there was a reason I liked her.

Don’t even ask me why the supposed model went for the disco ball dress.

Just found out Channing Tatum is married. He went down on my hot radar.  Then he said that his favorite label was Armani or Gucci.  But when asked, he said that being Southern meant everything.

“We have better manners.  The other day this lady’s umbrella blew away, and it just made sense to go and get it for her.  Some men forget that.”

He is back up on the hotness radar.

Oh Rose Gold.  How beautiful you are.  It is sad that so often you are molded into some tacky heart or gaudy piece of jewelry.  Luckily, Finn Jewelry has designed you into a beautiful knot and placed natural pink diamonds in you.  Unluckily, you are now over $2000.

I Gave In

I made a little purchase online today.  Yeah, I know Apple is coming out with a 4G version in June that has multitasking between apps and video chat, but I just couldn’t wait any longer.

I’ll let you know what I think.

Any must have apps?

I Can’t Help But Smile

Maybe it is the half grin.  Maybe it is the way that I feel protected when my cheek presses against your chest.  Maybe it is because you laugh and tease when I am completely a girl.  Maybe it is the lack of awkwardness.  Maybe it is you showing me how to cut an onion.  Maybe it is the distance.  Maybe it is the way you say my name.  Maybe it is how I can see your mind working on some joking jab at your friends.  Maybe it is the way you let me curl up on your lap on the couch.  Maybe it is the fact that you haven’t figured out my joking tone and look at me with your mouth a gap, thinking that I am really mad.  Maybe it is because you tell me, “Listen here, missy/little lady/or whatever cowboy word for girl you want to use”.  Maybe it is the thousands of texts.  Maybe it is because you are observant and thoughtful.  Maybe it is just the way you take me in your arms and kiss me.  Maybe it is because I can’t help but smile when you cross my mind.

I don’t know why, but you make me crazy happy.

Trade In

I got this ring from my ex boyfriend.

And I want to trade it in for one of these:

Which one should I choose?

Cosmo was jammed packed this issue.  I perused the first half and found some interesting things:

I would love to watch Single Man starring Colin Firth.  I have always been a Colin Firth fan.  How could you not?  Any Mr. Darcy has my heart for eternity.  I was searching for Colin Firth pictures and I found one blog siting him as IBD.  Apparently this means Ideal Breeding Material.  Hmmmm?  Maybe that is how I should start looking at men.  Purely by genetics.  I digress.  Where were we?  Yes….Colin.

Remember this moment?  The best moment in the entire movie.  They just knew as they starred across the room at each other.  Sigh.
I found this delightful clip that has too much sexiness for one screen.  Can you take it?  Whew!  The real reason I want to see Single Man is the fashion.  I think it will be such an inspiration.  Tom Ford…everything you touch is beautiful.

On to another fashion genius.  Michael Kors has created a new scent.

Does that pen look familiar?  Yep.  I posted it a while ago here.  I just love a man that can create a perfumed pen.

Recent fashion suggests that if you show off your legs you better cover up your arms.  I always thought that was standard.  Show off one asset at a time.  Leg/Upper Body…choose one.  Kinda like big earring/necklace or bold lipstick/theatrical eyes.  So, I guess that is why I really loved this dress from Asos.

I think I might pair it with some cute tights.  It should be a fun little sweater dress.

The most interesting was the article about what age to get married.

“25 is the cut off for a more successful marriage due to education and money.  The more years a woman has under her belt when she is married the lower the chances of divorce because educated women tend to be more confident about who they are and less willing to settle for a man that doesn’t meet their standards.  By 25, you are also supporting yourself so there’s less incentive for you to rush into marriage because you are seeking financial security.  In addition, you have been in the work force and dealt with juggling responsibilities and dealing with differing personalities which force you to develop skills to maintain a long-term love.”

That all makes sense to me.  It does seem that with each passing month, I know what I want more and more.  Funny how things work out that way.  I thought I knew everything about the world with I was 18.  Ha!  My thoughts and feelings have changed to almost be the opposite.  I’m still the same girl, I think I know that girl better.

Until part two……

Let’s be honest….I have been a slacker.  My head has been in the clouds, my work life has had me run every direction and I have had so much fun that I haven’t wanted to miss out on one second.  It is time to buckle down and make February a great month.

What do I want to accomplish?  When I try to ascertain my goals for the next month, part is for making myself a better person and part is for having a good time.  I go through how I would like to change myself and what I want to experience.

Making myself a better person:

  • Losing 3 pounds this month will be amazing
  • Pay an extra $200 off on my V.S. account
  • Get back to balancing my check book
  • Submit volunteer form at the museum
  • Set aside two hours weekly for web design
  • Talk to professor about dig possibilities

Things I just have to do because they need to get done:

  • Take down the Christmas tree that is turning into a Valentine’s tree
  • Set a schedule and stick to it
  • Get my license plates before I am taken to jail
  • Write a paper
  • Buy wedding gift

Fun things:

  • Hair, nails and facial the first week
  • Mini trip to Boston to eat amazing food, see landmarks, stay up late, sleep in and maybe a few kisses
  • Wedding for a friend

Whew…..this is going to be a packed month, but I couldn’t be happier at the moment.

So much to do and so little time.  I have two weeks to get a million things done!  What do I want to accomplish this week?

  • Finish my Thank You notes
  • Get the ball rolling on a big work project
  • Start on my paper for Archeology of Ancient Mexico
  • Deep clean the kitchen
  • Work out Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday
  • Pay my parking tickets

I would love to find an old house like this.  I bet it smells like moss and mushrooms.  Don’t you love that smell of the earth after the rain?  I miss the hint of pine and cedar that living in the Northwest gave, but I have grown to love softness that the Indiana fall leaves brings to your nose.  hmmmmm…..I wish I was spending the rest of the week outside.  :)
